Darting to and fro midst the fiery orange bunchberry, their leaves glowing in the morning sun, a chipmunk forages for nuts and seeds. Winter is fast approaching and before tiny ‘Squeaks’ steals into her burrow for a long winter’s hibernation she needs to store away enough food to get her through those cold, cold months. When snow envelopes the landscape, she’ll be toasty warm, snuggled deep in her straw lined den with caches of dry tasty meals nearby.
Then as the days begin to once again grow long, she will emerge from her winter home to explore the forest floor.
